Level 2 – UK & International Transport of Radioactive Material by Road (ADR) Function Specific Skills (webinar)
This is an online webinar training course
Course Material
NTS will provide a hard copy of the NTS workbook and a PDF copy of ADR 2023 pre-book-marked with Class 7 relevant tabs, delegates will need their own laptop/tablet to view the PDF. Delegates preferring to use hard copies of ADR will need to supply their own copies.
Learning Outcomes
This training course equips participants with a comprehensive understanding of the regulations for the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR) in respect of the carriage of Class 7 Radioactive Materials. The course focuses on using and interpreting the ADR text within the UK legal framework. Students will be instructed where to find information in the ADR text and how to interpret that information by working through examples as a group. The course covers:
- Legal application of ADR under the UK Carriage of Dangerous Goods Regulations 2009 (as amended)
- Class 7 Exemptions
- General Provisions
- Security requirements for High Consequence Radioactive Materials
- Classification of Excepted Packages, LSA, SCO, Fissile and Fissile Exceptions, Type A and Type B packages.
- Management Systems
- Packaging and Packaging Standards
- Marking and Labelling
- Placarding and Marking
- Loading and Handling
- Transport Operations, including crew duties.
- Load restrictions related to radioactive material.
Examination
Delegates will be required to take a 2-hour examination on the final day, to demonstrate the candidate can find and use information from ADR. The exam is “open-book”, which means the student can use the ADR text, the NTS workbook and student notes during the exam.
The exam has 23 questions, requiring 75% correct answers for a pass, each question is worth a discrete score depending on the amount of information required to complete the answer e.g., a classification question may require 5 pieces of information, therefore it will be worth 5 marks. However certain questions require a high level of accuracy to be demonstrated, as per real-life, therefore there will also be a minimum score for these questions and this will be displayed next to the overall mark for the question. The course will work through example test questions as group exercises during the training.
